For many years we have had the desire to build a new activity and community outreach center. Today, that dream is a reality!
On March 12, 2003, a name was chosen: The Ebenezer Center. "Ebenezer" means stone of help. You can find reference to it in your Bible in the 7th chapter of 1st Samuel, verse 12. The NIV Bible records it this way:
"Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, [stone of help] saying, 'Thus far has the LORD helped us'."
The name Ebenezer is to help us remember that it is God's faithfulness that has brought us to this day and to this place. It is also a reminder that we must continue to be faithful to Him.
On Sunday, August 10, 2003 members and friends of the West Berlin Wesleyan Church broke ground to mark the beginning of the construction phase of The Ebenezer Center. The building is located on the church campus at the corner of Portland and Bliss Roads.
It took over four years, the financial support of many friends, a lot of work and God’s blessing to arrive at this day when we have our permanent occupancy permit. The last inspection for occupancy took place and the permit was granted on August 31, 2007. The kitchen passed inspection and is licensed since September 7, 2007.
On September 22, 2007, we gathered with our friends and held a banquet in the Ebenezer Center. It was a time of celebration and of renewed commitment.
Since that time, the Ebenezer Center has been in regular use. The formal dedication was held on Sunday, November 30, 2008.
To this we say, “Thus far has the LORD helped us.”
